![]() Credit Unions help Victory Junction families offset increased fuel prices Carolinas Credit Union Foundation Helps Out with Camper Transportation ![]() With gasoline climbing towards $4 a gallon, everyone is feeling the effect of soaring gas prices. One of Victory Junction’s longtime partners and founder, Carolinas Credit Union Foundation, has stepped up to the “gas pump” and offered their assistance with camper transportation. “John Slack and his team at Carolina Credit Union Foundation continue to be proactive in their support of Victory Junction,” said Dean Kessel, President of Victory Junction. “Their gracious donation of over $60,000 in purchase cards will provide much needed assistance with the increased transportation costs facing the families of our campers this summer.” After partnering with Victory Junction in 2002, Carolina Credit Union Foundation’s continued support of camp has been astounding. This very generous gift will fuel camper’s spirits, allowing them to enjoy the experience of a lifetime! http://www.victoryjunction.org/aa_misc/news_2008_05_30.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you notes from camper families: From Gregory Moore
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, My name is Donna Smith and I am from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. My 9 year old son attended Victory Junctions Spina Bifida summer camp this week and I so appreciate the $50 gift card the credit donated. Like many parents my husband and I just want our son to experience everything available to him and this camp is the most awesome place. It was his first time being away from home and quite the "Rite of Passage" for all of us. So thank you for your support of VJGC and for thinking about the expense incurred by the parents. I have attached a picture of my son and husband playing putt putt at VJGC during this years Spina Bifida Family Weekend. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I wanted to thank your organization for the unexpected "gas card" that my family received. My son was a camper at Victory Junction Camp and when I took him there, I was given a $50 gift card for gas. I wanted you to know that gift meant a lot to my family and really helped out with the expense of getting him to camp. Thank you for all you do!! Melanie Seeman ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Mr. Slack, After spending last week at Victory Junction Gang Camp as a volunteer cabin counselor, I wanted to pass along to you my most heartfelt gratitude for the generosity of the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation. I had the pleasure of witnessing, firsthand, just how much those precious travel card gifts meant to the camper families and wanted to pass along one example. After one camper family had been registered and checked in by our medical staff in the Body Shop, I was in the waiting area to escort him and his family to his cabin. This can be a rather difficult time for the parents, as they are close to saying goodbye to their child for five days (sometimes for the first time, except for hospital stays) and are already starting to miss them. When this camper's mom was making her final checkout at the medical desk, one of our staff members handed her the credit card and explained that the CCUF had made this kind donation for each of the families to assist in their travel costs. The mom was stunned and completely overwhelmed with gratitude, and tearfully expressed her deepest thanks. This story was repeated throughout the day with each of the families. All of us shared what we had witnessed and it was a positive emotional experience to begin our week! I have been a member of the board at Victory Junction since its inception and look forward to sharing this story at our next meeting. I especially wanted you to know how deeply appreciated this generous gift has been for all of the camper families this summer. My heartfelt thanks to you and your members, ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Carolinas Credit Union Foundation:
I wanted to make sure to thank you for your kind gift to our family. My son, Nicholas, a 10-year old cancer survivor, who is also a liver and kidney recipient, attended Victory Junction camp in June. It was the first time he had ever attended a sleep away camp, and we were a bit nervous. So we decided to drive him from Chesapeake, Virginia to Randelman, North Carolina. Your gasoline gift card was very much appreciated.
He had a fabulous time, and we are so thankful that he attended such a wonderful and loving camp for his very first camping experience.
With great appreciation, Renee Olmo

Credit unions in the Western Chapter are working with Eblen Charities to provide snacks for school children through the Food for Thought Program. The Carolinas Credit Union Foundation provided a Micro Community Grant representing the generosity of credit unions in North Carolina and South Carolina to place snack bins in the classrooms in Buncombe County and the surrounding counties. Credit union branches are serving as collection points for the community to donate snacks. People helping people help themselves ... because it's the right thing to do.
