Working Today to Create a Better Future

In September of 1993 the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation was incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in the state of North Carolina. And, in 1994, the Internal Revenue Service approved the Foundation as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. Since that time the Foundation has established itself as a charitable organization dedicated to the embodiment of the people helping people philosophy of North and South Carolina credit unions, their members, and their communities.

Initially, the Foundation instituted an academic scholarship program and a disaster relief program. Both of these programs have been highly successful. Over the past several years, the Foundation has awarded more than 400 academic and financial aid scholarships to credit union members of the Carolinas. Additionally, the Foundation has awarded disaster relief grants to communities throughout North Carolina, the United States and, in some cases, to foreign countries, to assist in economic and social redevelopment.

Over the past few years the Foundation has sought to add to its focus and to expand its mission. In 1998, the Prevent Child Abuse Project became the social responsibility of the Foundation. Upon fulfillment of the commitment to Prevent Child Abuse, the Foundation has established relationships and managed projects with numerous organizations in communities across the Carolinas, instead of adopting singular multi-year projects as in the past. The Foundation is currently working with the Micro Community Grants Program as a two-state social responsibility project.
